I. NAME OF SPONSOR(S): Wizard Entertainment Inc., 662 N. Sepulveda Blvd., Suite 300, Los Angeles, CA 90049. (Hereinafter referred to as "Sponsor.")
II. ELIGIBILITY: Entrants for the Wizard World Columbus Costume Contest (hereinafter referred to as "Contest") must be 13 years of age or older. Entrants must be in attendance at Wizard World Columbus on Saturday, October 19, 2019 with a valid wristband for that day or all three days of the show. Any individuals (including but not limited to employees, consultants, independent contractors, and interns) who have, within the past year, performed services for Sponsor, any organizations responsible for sponsoring, fulfilling, administering, advertising or promoting the contest or supplying the prize, and their respective parent, subsidiary, affiliated and successor companies, and immediate family and household members of such individuals, are not eligible to enter or play. "Immediate family members" shall mean parents, step-parents, children, step-children, siblings, step-siblings, or spouses. "Household members" shall mean people who share the same residence at least three months a year. Sponsor retains full discretion in determining eligibility of any individual.
III. HOW AND WHEN TO ENTER: Sign up either online or on site at the show before the sign-up period has closed. Attend Wizard World Columbus on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center with a valid wristband for that day or all three days of the show.
IV. RULES: Costumes must be of at least 75% original construction, or show significant modification of pre-existing materials. No costumes are allowed that are purchased or otherwise obtained from a commercial source. A costume that has previously won Best In Show or Best In Master Class or First Place at another convention is not eligible.
Sponsor is a family-friendly company and reserves the right to to refuse participation if entrant's costume and/or behavior does not fall within those parameters. Entrants may register to compete as either individuals or groups, but not both. Themed group entrants may consist of no more than six individuals. Individual contestants' stage presentation during Contest may not exceed more than 30 seconds and group contestants' stage presentation may not exceed more than one minute unless judging panel has additional questions. Microphones will not be provided to entrants for use in their stage presentations. If a contestant is looking to include a combat performance as part of their presentation, it must be cleared by Sponsor. No liquids, messy substances, or anything that may pose a danger is allowed on stage. Throwing items into the audience is prohibited. Violating these rules will disqualify contestant, and possibly result in removal from the premises.
Sponsor and its representatives may reject an entry at any time on the basis of inappropriate or unsafe behavior or content, because of too many purchased items, because the construction materials or techniques used do not meet the criteria of quality for the show, or because the event has reached its limit for entries.
V. HOW AND WHEN WINNERS WILL BE SELECTED AND NOTIFIED: Entrants are strongly encouraged to sign up online prior to Wizard World Columbus 2019 due to limited space. On site signups will be cut off at 3:00pm EST on Saturday, October 19, 2019 or at Sponsor's discretion. Entrants will be divided into groups for pre-screening Preview Showcases and must be present at their assigned time at Wizard World Columbus' Entertainment Stage on Saturday, October 19, 2019 in order to compete in Contest. Contest will take place in the Short North Ballroom at the Greater Columbus Convention center that evening. Those who are selected to compete must arrive at the Short North Ballroom by half an hour before the scheduled start time at the latest to be checked in and lined up. Sponsor reserves the right to select as many or as few contestants as it wishes. Judging criteria will be up to judges but will take into account originality, overall appeal, creativity and craftsmanship. Judging panel will choose winners in the Best Hero, Best Villain, Best Anime Character, Best Video Game Character and Best Group or Duo. Best in Show winner will be selected from among those five winners via audience voting mechanism. Winners will be announced at end of Contest.
VI. PRIZE: (1) Best in Show winner will receive $10,000 dollars. Additional categories including (1) Best Hero winner, (1) Best Villain winner, (1) Best Anime Character winner, (1) Best Video Game Character winner and (1) Best Group or Duo winner will each receive $500. Winner of Best Group or Duo category will receive $500 in total. Should Best in Show winner be a group consisting of more than one individual, winner will still receive $10,000 in total. Sponsor reserves the right to select fewer than (5) winners if in its sole discretion, it does not receive a sufficient number of eligible and qualified submissions. Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received.
All expenses not specifically provided for herein are the winner’s sole responsibility. Some restrictions may apply. Federal, state and local taxes, if any, are the sole responsibility of the winner. Winners are not entitled to exchange or transfer prizes or to obtain other substitutes, but Sponsor in its sole discretion may substitute prizes of equal or greater value. If won by a minor, prize will be awarded in parent’s or guardian’s name.
VII. RELEASES: By participating, entrants agree to be bound by these official rules and the decisions of the Sponsor/Judges and the contest administrator, which shall be final in all respects. By participating in this contest and accepting any prize that they may win, entrants agree to release Wizard Entertainment Inc., their subsidiaries, affiliated and successor companies, advertising and promotion agencies and prize suppliers, and each of their respective officers, directors, agents, representatives and employees, as well as each of their respective successors, representatives and assigns (collectively, the “Released Parties”) from any and all actions, claims, injury, loss or damage arising in any manner, directly or indirectly, from participation in this contest and/or acceptance or use of the prize.
Entrants, or Entrants’ parent or legal guardian if Entrant is a minor, authorize the Released Parties to use their name, voice, likeness, biographical data, city and state of residence and entry materials in programming or promotional material, in any media now known or hereafter created or conceived, worldwide in perpetuity, or on a winner’s list, if applicable, without further compensation unless prohibited by law. Sponsor is not obligated to use any of the above mentioned information or materials, but may do so and may edit such information or materials, at Sponsor’s sole discretion, without further obligation or compensation.
By participating Entrants acknowledge that their participation may be included and/or discussed in a broadcast or online, that such discussion may include statements or opinions by the broadcast talent or others about the entrants, the entrants’ appearances and/or the materials, and that those statements and opinions may be considered surprising, humiliating, embarrassing, derogatory, defamatory or otherwise offensive or injurious to them, Sponsor’s employees, its studio or at-home audience and/or other third parties. Entrants release the Released Parties from any actions, claims, injury, loss or damage allegedly caused, directly or indirectly, by any such statements or opinions made during a broadcast.
VIII. MISCELLANEOUS: Void where prohibited. All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply.
Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process and to cancel, terminate, modify and/or suspend the contest in the event of tampering or other circumstances, including but not limited to acts of God or civil disturbance that render it impractical or impossible to complete or fulfill the contest as originally planned.
