fanboys 918 presents: the state of trek 2017

Well, fellow Trekkers, Star Trek’s 50th Anniversary came and went with a whimper in 2016. We had a few blurbs in the media, but NO new Trek series. Star Trek Beyond, while a great movie, underperformed at the box office and it seemed like what should have been a triumphant year for Trek was a huge missed opportunity. But, as our favorite Vulcan says, “There are always possibilities…”In 2017, New Trek RPG games are coming out, there are rumblings at Paramount for a fourth Kelvin Timeline film, and CBS is charging ahead with Star Trek: Discovery! Nothing stays dead in the Trek universe – not even TREK ITSELF!  This panel is an attempt to discuss, with Trek Fans, the current – and possibly lacking – state of the Star Trek franchise. Does it work better on TV? Is it an untapped “Mega-Franchise” a-la Marvel, or has Trek’s time essentially past in the wake of “hipper and glossier” sci-fi. We hope to zero in on the successes and failures of the recent Trek efforts as well as state our hopes for the upcoming series “Star Trek: Discovery.”

    vampires, the original nightmare

Vampires have become the pizza crust of pop culture. It doesn’t matter if you want something that’s not-quite the Matrix, not-quite the Walking Dead, or not-quite Secret Life of the American Teenager, someone has poured the script over vampires. So a lot people will tell you what a “proper” vampire is, how they’d dress, act, etc. But who’s right? Me! Why would I make such a bold claim? Because my opinion changed drastically as I researched the matter, and more crucially, I've brought with me a gal who doesn't totally agree. So I invite you to join me, Jason Petty and my cohort, Ashley Klinck, as we attempt to trace the course of a myth through time, and decide for yourself if the age old question is at last solved.
