Simone Missick is quickly becoming one of Hollywood’s hottest leading actresses. She is currently making history for her powerful and extraordinary portrayal in Marvel’s "Luke Cage” for Netflix, as TV’s first black female superhero, “Misty Knight.” She has been touted as the show’s “breakout star” and was featured as one of People Magazine’s “Ones to Watch” prior to the first season premiere. She continues to portray this impactful character in the various other Netflix/Marvel shows “The Defenders” and “Iron Fist."
Recently, Simone filmed the lead in an independent film “Jinn” directed by Nijla Mumin. This tells the deeply intimate and timely story of a woman that converts to Islam and how this affects her family dynamic. After this, Simone spent the Spring of 2017 getting back to her theater roots in Center Theatre Group’s “Citizen: An American Lyric.” Based on a book of poetry by Claudia Rankine, adapted for the stage by Fountain Co-Artistic Director Stephen Sachs, and directed by Shirley Jo Finney, “Citizen” fuses poetry, prose, movement, music and the video image in a provocative stage adaptation.
Simone’s other television appearances include, ABC’s political thriller “Scandal”, Fox’s “Wayward Pines" and Showtime’s criminal drama “Ray Donovan.” She also starred in the comedy short “Voicemail", which she was nominated for the Best Actor award at the NBC Universal Shorts Festival. On the stage, Simone starred as “Sweet Tea” in "The Road Weeps, the Well Runs Dry” at the LA Theatre Center, which earned her an NAACP Theater Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress in 2014.
Born and raised in Detroit, Simone knew she wanted to be an entertainer at the young age of 7 years old. Both an athlete and a musician, Simone was captain of her varsity basketball team, ran track and field, and was concert mistress of her high school orchestra. The latter would allow her to travel Europe, performing with a youth orchestra. Influenced by actors like Phylicia Rashad, Robert DeNiro, Meryl Streep and Denzel Washington, Simone felt drawn to acting and went on to study acting at Howard University and the British American Drama Academy in Oxford, taking master classes with legends like Ben Kingsley, Alan Rickman and Jane Lapotaire. A firm believer in her faith and the blessings that life presents to her, Simone was walking around a studio lot which led to a chance run-in with the creator of Luke Cage (Cheo Hodari Coker). Five months later, she was called in to audition for the role of “Missy.” Not only did she book the role, but she soon realized it was for the iconic super heroine “Misty Knight.” Simone was astounded when she got the call, but the producers told her they knew she was Misty from the moment they saw her tape.
Simone currently resides in both Los Angeles and New York with her husband, actor Dorian Missick, and their 4 year old rescue poodle mix, Charlie. She enjoys healthy cooking, watching HGTV, golf and throwing girls night parties with her friends.
