Naoko Mori was born in Nagoya, Japan, and grew up in Japan, the US and the UK. She works extensively in TV, Theatre, Radio and Film in both the UK and Japan.
On screen, she is best known as Toshiko Sato in the hit BBC drama TORCHWOOD, and as Saffy’s best friend Sarah (aka Titicaca) in the BAFTA and Emmy award winning comedy ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS.
She was most recently seen in EVEREST (Universal) starring Josh Brolin, Jason Clarke, and Jake Gyllenhaal in which she portrays Yasuko Namba, the sole female climber of the team, who at the age of 47 became the oldest female in history to conquer the world’s ‘Seven Summits’.
Her other film credits include Mike Leigh’s Oscar nominated TOPSY TURVY, SPICEWORLD – THE MOVIE, SUSPENSION OF DISBELIEF and HACKERS.
She has also played regular roles in CASUALTY (BBC) and PSYCHOS (Channel 4), and portrayed real life atomic bomb survivor Shige Hiratsuka in the BAFTA and Emmy award winning drama HIROSHIMA (BBC/TBS), and Yoko Ono opposite Christopher Eccleston’s John Lennon in the critically acclaimed LENNON NAKED (BBC/NHK).

Her theatre work includes Kim in MISS SAIGON (Theatre Royal Drury Lane, London), Grusha in THE CAUCASIAN CHALK CIRCLE (Sadler’s Wells, London), Sheila in HAIR, Erica in THE BEAUTY, THE TOKEN & THE MAYONNAISE (PARCO Theater, Tokyo), Stacey in SNAKE IN FRIDGE (Royal Exchange, Manchester) and Christmas Eve in AVENUE Q (Noel Coward Theatre, London)
Naoko became the first ever Japanese National to play a lead role in the West End when she played Kim in MISS SAIGON, and in 2000 was named as one of the ‘Neo Japanese of the Millennium’ by Newsweek Japan.
