Kate “Kae” McSpadden
Kate “Kae” McSpadden has been honing her artistic skills from a very young age. After completing her Associates Degree, Kae transferred to Northern Illinois University to continue mastering many different artistic media. It was drawing and animation, however, that truly piqued her interest, and she enrolled in the highly regarded Time-Arts Program. In this program, she gained valuable knowledge of the digital art world in regards to drawing, animation, storytelling and editing, but also took art classes in areas as diverse as scientific illustration and 3D art. During this time, Kae also maintained employment as a cartoonist for the Northern Star, NIU's student newspaper. In the winter of 2013, Kae graduated from Northern Illinois University with a Bachelor's of Fine Arts Degree. Inspirations for her art include Walt Disney, Hayao Miyazaki, Satoshi Kon, Guillermo Del Toro, Yoshitaka Amano and Matt Groening.
Since graduation, Kae has been keeping busy as an independent artist, securing contracted work on various projects such as comic book illustration and designs for the Reppin’ Flag Company. She has also been a strong contributor to a number of art contests, and was twice selected as a finalist for the Design a Dance costume contest for the hit TV show Dancing with the Stars.
This summer, Kae was one of four winners of the Art Installation Sponsorship program for the annual music festival, Electric Forest. Her piece "Find Your Wings" consisted of wing sculptures placed through out the festival which allowed participants to pose and transform them into fantasy creatures, providing a magical photo opportunity.
