Chicago Costume has been outfitting residents of Chicago in simple to elaborate costumes since 1976. The business was founded by Mary Hickey Panayotou when she began making custom designed garments and renting costumes out of her home. As her business blossomed customers started to inquire about purchasing accessories, makeup, and wigs to go along with their costumes. To accommodate their needs and expand her business she decided a larger space was needed. She purchased a building in the Lincoln Park neighborhood and the Fullerton store was born. Some years later she purchased a warehouse in Portage Park to open a second storefront.
The company has since grown to include Mary's son Courtland, his wife Erin and many other family members and friends throughout the years.
Besides dressing local residents, Chicago Costume also works with a variety of organizations including local theater companies, schools, corporate businesses, as well as neighborhood committees, charities, and more!
The company also specializes in custom costumes, masks, and accessories. Our talented staff includes skilled artists from various fields to help bring your idea to life!
