Hot Picks: David Lynch's Groundhog Day

Slam Next Jam #1 - By Pamela Ribon, Mari Julia, Veronica Fish

Pamela Ribon’s critically acclaimed roller-derby comic SLAM! finally got a sequel! This new series from BOOM! Studios continues the story of Knockout and CanCan who broke one of the biggest rules in derby (and, you know, some actual bones) and now have to rehab this standing in the league and their broken bodies.

Sink #1 - By John Lees & Alex Cormack

After a successful Kickstarter campaign, Lees and Cormack’s utterly creepy comic series finally makes its way to comic stores. This book is so disturbing, from the weird dude with the condom on his head to the blue van filled with killer clowns and a bus that will do for public transportation what Jaws did to the ocean. It’s like House of 1,000 Corpses written by Garth Ennis with visceral, frightening art to match.

Retcon #1 - By Matt Nixon & Toby Cypress

A comic book that’s a reboot of a comic book miniseries that never existed! It’s an “all-new, all-different issue #1 as a group of adventurers find themselves endlessly reinvented and retconned on new parallel Earths to face the same paranormal enemy over and over again. Nixon has basically given us Groundhog Day as written by David Lynch! This one is going to be a wild ride!

Generations Captain Marvel & Capt Mar-vell #1 - By Margaret Stohl & Brent Schoonover

Carol Danvers, CAPTAIN MARVEL, is destined for a face-to-face with someone she never thought she'd see again - Mar-Vell of the Kree, the OTHER CAPTAIN MARVEL! Stohl, a NY Times bestselling author, will tell the story of Danvers’ time in a sort of fever dream created for several heros by Kobik at the end of Secret Empire. It’s not time travel, as none of the events in this comic ever happened, but Danvers will feel the effects of this meeting for some time to come.

Runaways #1 - By Rainbow Rowell & Kris Anka

The entire original cast is back as young adult author Rainbow Rowell makes her Marvel debut with superstar Kris Anka on art. With a new Hulu series months away from its debut it makes total sense that Marvel would attempt a huge relaunch of this title. Marvel has promised the return of a beloved character won’t disappoint fans of the original series, but only time will tell how Rowell plans to retcon one of the most heartbreaking deaths in modern comics.
