This round table discusses the progression of the Black presence in main stream comics since the 1960s. Throughout the history of comics, the black image may have been jaded in popularity, but there have been many successes. This is an opportunity to analyze what makes a character of color successful throughout the ages despite their race, and how the diversity of these characters solidify their presence within the comic book universe.

Wizard World is proud to present world-renown animator Tom Cook (Tarzan; Flash Gordon; He-Man and the Masters of the Universe; She-Ra Princess of Power). This panel will be a demonstration of the steps taken to bring an idea from script to screen. Cook will begin with a short story of how he became an animator back in the late 1970s and then describe the different departments in an animation studio and what they do to move the development of the cartoon forward. Tom will have a few scenes he has worked on over the years on video and then will open the floor for questions about either the process or any other question you may have. So come out and see first-hand how your favorite cartoons were made!

Brandishing an impressive arsenal of musical instruments (including guitar, resonator guitar, mandolin, ukulele, fiddle, violin, pennywhistle, squeeze box, davul, doumbek, agogo, washboard, t-fer, and bodhran - just to name a few), they sound quite unlike anything you have ever heard before. Since Mystery Science Theater burst onto the scene in 1988, movie riffing has become an art form expanding across the country. Join the cast of Rabbit Ears: The Show in a discussion of favorite MST3K moments, as well as various methods on how to riff a movie. We will also be watching the classic MST3K short film, "A Date with Your Family," other moving riffing clips, plus a live "riff-off" to a classic short with members of the audience!

5:30 – 6:15PM EVERYTHING & THE KITCHEN SINK: WISCONSIN’S UNDERGROUND COMIX SCENE (ROOM M-6)
Underground comix, the offshoot of the implementation of the Comics Code Authority in 1954, marked itself as rebellious, as the “X” denotes mature themes, such as sex, drugs, & violence. It is not widely known that Wisconsin was a major epicenter of underground comix publishing and women’s discourse outside San Francisco. The attached panel explores Wisconsin’s underground history through the period’s comix and newspapers, with a particular focus on the creative outgrowth that spawned the talents of artists and writers like Denis Kitchen, Jim Mitchell, Trina Robbins, Sharon Rudahl, and Robert Crumb.
